Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Grant Strem has a B.Sc. in Geology and an M.Sc. in Reservoir Characterization, both from the University of Calgary.

Grant considers himself an explorationist and worked for various producers including Paramount, Burlington Resources, ConocoPhillips, Total E&P, and Husky. Grant also worked as a Reserves Evaluator for GLJ Petroleum Consultants, and as a Research Analyst at TD Securities covering the oil sands sector. He also started his own oil company focused on light oil, helium, and geothermal resources.

Proton Technologies Canada Inc.

In 2015 Grant co-founded Proton with Dr. Ian Gates, then Department Head for the Petroleum and Chemical Engineering faculty at the University of Calgary, also Grant’s former professor.

Proton was established to commercialize its patented hydrogen (H2) production method and separation technology (Coded as CLEAR Hydrogen). Their technology and process is novel and potentially revolutionary for the oil and gas industry and simultaneously, the clean energy economy, as it re-purposes old or abandoned projects to become large-scale clean hydrogen producers.

Proton has developed into a strong participant in the energy industry’s transition. Through industry education, thought leadership, and experienced execution, Proton is positioned to produce emissions-free fuel and help bridge the gap between old infrastructure investments and evolving lucrative markets for clean energy
