Climate Change Solutions

...developing synergies and partnerships that promote and deliver low carbon solutions

Earth From the Air

EARTH FROM THE AIR is a spectacular presentation of large-scale pictures of the Earth and astonishing natural landscapes. Created by world-famous photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand, every stunning aerial photograph tells a story about our changing planet. Seen together, they are an outstanding visual testimony to the world we live in today. A world with a growing population, shrinking biodiversity, polluted lands and oceans, a changing climate and a shortage of drinking water. A world, nevertheless, of beauty and of wonder.

Climate Change Risk Management

Climate Change Risk Management is a specialist scientific consultancy offering technical and scientific expertise on a range of issues associated with contemporary and future climate change. These include the following:

  • Modelling of future climate scenarios using General Circulation Models (GCMs). We have the expertise to assess and run computer model simulations of the future climate to assess the likely nature of climate change from anywhere in the World.
  • Assessments of vulnerability of sites to sea level change.
  • Hydrological modelling and flood risk analysis.
  • Water supply variations, natural hazard variability and climate change risk assessments.
  • Soil erosion and degradation of agricultural land associated with climate change.

The EPSRC SCRATCH Project

The aim of the Supply Chain Research Applied To Clean Hydrogen (SCRATCH) project is to carry out research embracing the whole hydrogen cycle in the future hydrogen economy. This interdisciplinary work is based at the University of Birmingham in the Biosciences, Metallurgy and Materials, Chemical Engineering and Economics Departments. Researchers in those department are dealing with hydrogen production via green routes using bacterial fermentation of food chain waste as a substrate; efficient storage of hydrogen for its use when needed; utilisation of the hydrogen in vehicles; Combined Heat and Power (CHP) units and economic aspects of the evolving new economy, respectively.

The major objective of the work is to establish a chain of supply companies based in the West Midlands for serving the new technologies. Principal Investigator of the project is Professor Kevin Kendall (FRS) from the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Birmingham.

Birmingham University Energy Challenge Club

Birmingham University Energy Challenge Club focusing on smart energy systems and bioenergy for transport, Energy Challenge Clubs have launched to help West Midlands companies, universities and public sector organisations network, collaborate and develop solutions around advanced energy technologies.

The West Midlands has many strengths in energy related research and business applications. These span energy efficiency, sustainable energy, power electronics and hydrogen technologies.

LowC Communities Ltd

LowC Communities Ltd ('LowC') aims to make low carbon communities happen, in the most cost-effective manner, within the built environment.
