Jim was born and raised in Coventry. He left school to work in a factory which made fibre glass roofing lasting seven months before getting at job in the Peugeot factory in Ryton in 1988. It was here that Jim joined the Transport and General Workers Union rising to become Convenor of the plant in 2004. This experience gave Jim both the skills and motivation to do the job he now does. Jim later worked for the Union and also for a Coventry MP.
Jim has been a member of the Labour Party for many years holding lots of different positions. He is also a school governor at Frederick Bird School in Hillfields. He was finally elected to Coventry City Council in 2007 after a number of years of trying! He likes people that tell the truth and knows when they're not! His background dictates that he will work and fight for people who would otherwise be left behind

As part of SSE Energy Solutions, Darren is working with a range of organisations including Local Authorities, Universities, Hotels and Care homes on a range of solutions to help them reduce carbon emissions and cost, not least of which are Energy Performance Contracts, Battery Storage and Demand Side Response.  Although Darren works for a large Plc, he is a champion of the SME having previously formed and chaired the Renewable Energy Technology Alliance (RETA) a consortium of SMEs working together in the renewable energy and energy efficiency sector.
Outside of work he is a novice composter, a season ticket holder at Wasps RFU and occasionally runs.

Matthew Rhodes has been involved with innovative low carbon energy projects for over 20 years. He chairs the Energy Capital initiative in the West Midlands, which is a public-private partnership governed through the West Midlands Combined Authority to maximise the local economic benefits from distributed energy innovation. He’s also a director of the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership where he’s responsible for Simulating Innovation.

Dr Alice Mah is an urban, political, and environmental sociologist. Her wide-ranging research interests lie at the intersection of critical political economy, multi-sited ethnography, and science and technology studies.

She is the author of Industrial Ruination, Community, and Place (2012), winner of the 2013 BSA Philip Abrams Memorial Prize, and Port Cities and Global Legacies (2014). Alice is the Principal Investigator of Toxic Expertise. This project builds on themes from her previous research on the toxic legacies of abandoned chemical industries in Niagara Falls and on petrochemical pollution in the Mississippi Chemical Corridor.

Juliette moved to Coventry to study Economics at the University of Warwick, and then worked in the public sector for a number of years before joining National Grid in January 2015. She currently works in the Energy Insights team in the System Operator function at National Grid. This team undertakes a large amount of modelling and stakeholder engagement to produce analysis, thought pieces and briefings on key energy topics. She wrote part of the 2017 Future Energy Scenarios (FES) document, which looks at how GB energy supply and demand could evolve between now and 2050.
