Speaker Biography:

Dr Michaela Kendall is a research scientist with 25 years international experience, and 100 international publications, including the Elsevier book Solid Oxide Fuel Cells for the 21st Century: Fundamental, Design and Applications (2015) and 80 journal papers. Dr Kendall was Assistant Professor of Environmental Medicine at New York University at the age of 30, and has since held Faculty-level positions in America, Asia and Europe. After 15+ years of studying environmental problems related to the health effects of air pollution, she now develops green energy technology solutions and environmental policy tools to improve air quality. Her current projects integrate academia and business with the aim of reducing atmospheric emissions from combustion by using fuel cells. The projects are a mix of EC funded projects under FP7 and H2020, plus cleantech commercialisation projects supported by industry. Adelan is a small fuel cells business co-founded in the late 1990s by Dr Kendall, and is a privately held cleantech company.

Speaker Biography:

Ahmad El-kharouf is the manager of the EPSRC centre for doctoral training in Fuel Cells and their Fuels. He has been working in the fuel cell sector for the last 8 years and his main research interest is in the development of intermediate temperature (IT) polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFCs) and degradation mechanisms of PEFC components. He also worked on the development of PEFC components, mainly; gas diffusion layers, bipolar plates and polymer membranes.

Speaker Biography:

Navdeep joined National Grid in 2015 on the graduate development programme with a Masters in Mechanical and Materials Engineering whilst pursuing his PhD in Efficient Fossil Energy Technologies. Since joining the company Navdeep has spent time in Network Strategy and then as an energy analyst helping to deliver National Grid’s annual Future Energy Scenarios document. He has since focused on the future role of the gas distribution networks and will be project managing the UK’s first practical deployment of injecting hydrogen and natural gas blends into the gas distribution network

Speaker Biography:

John joined ITM Power in January 2012 from RWE npower where he was CIO for the UK generation business. John has 20 years’ utility experience in various roles including, R&D, supply chain development and management, international business development and engineering consultancy. John has a background in energy storage and was part of Regenesys Technologies, a company formed by National Power plc which developed a utility scale energy storage technology based on redox flow batteries. John leads ITM’s activities in the field of power-to-gas and worked with National Grid Gas Distribution and Northern Gas Networks to secure funding for the HyDeploy project, the UK’s first power-to-gas demonstration.

Dr. John Graves is a Research Fellow in the Centre for Manufacturing and Materials Engineering at Coventry University. He is an Electrochemist by training and has research interests in  
Electrosynthesis, Nanotechnology and Materials.  He is Principal Investigator of the Research Grant investigating the  ‘Novel Production of Renewable Hydrogen from Animal and Human Waste’
